Duck or Get Hit: Boys and ADHD

Duck or Get Hit

The Federal Government’s National Center for Health Statistics warns of an epidemic of ADHD in boys is hitting the nation. This epidemic hits boys more than girls and more medications are needed to control the epidemic. An ADHD epidemic is another way for insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies promote new sales of drugs and make more profits with the help of government officials in the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies.
The only epidemic is that there are more households that have both parents working full-time, children are on computers and watching television more, and schools are not performing the duties of educating. Schools today are teaching less and policing more. Students of all ages need after-school activities that engage their minds and promote a healthy body.
My attention span in the classroom in the mid-‘80’s was about five minutes in classes I hated and ten in classes I liked. It seemed that out of twenty students in my classes only about a quarter really stayed focused for over half the fifty minutes of class. Outside we were wild and out of control: playing kill-the-man with the ball, skateboarding everywhere, and having BB-gun wars.
Today doctors would have had me and fourteen others in my class so medicated we could walk. ADHD is a doctor’s diagnosis for a healthy wild child. It is used to help who can’t control their children. As a teacher I have seen hundreds of students so medicated they couldn’t stay awake during the school day, but they are not wild. I have seen elementary age children get carried in because that are so medicated they can’t wake-up.
Today this nation addresses almost all youth and adults deemed a problem with either medication, jail, or both. The government, health care agencies, drug companies, doctors have created a false epidemic to calm what once just a healthy normal children growing up in America.
The only thing sick in America are those running the country!
